“Little Liturgies” for the Podcast Age
HARRISONBURG, Virginia: The Soil and the Seed Project today announced the release of Little Liturgies, a weekly podcast of scripture, litanies, questions, and songs that follows the Christian church’s liturgical calendar. The Little Liturgies podcast corresponds to and is an extension of the written resources created for the three-year-cycle of the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL). The podcast makes existing resources available to a broad audience through a new, digital medium through the financial support from Everence.
“This is something we had hoped to be able to do for a long time,” says Seth Crissman, project director of The Seed and the Soil Project. “The Soil and The Seed Project has always been about helping all of us turn towards Jesus and believe the Good News in little, ordinary moments. For lots of people, podcasts are with them in those moments: driving across town, walking the dog, washing dishes. Being able to meet people where they are in those moments is exactly what we hoped to do, and we’re so thankful that the folks at Everence understood the vision and are helping make this new format possible.”
The Soil and The Seed Project’s podcast producer, Lydia Haggard, is another person who caught the vision and is helping make it possible to take the written Little Liturgies resources and bring them to life in the podcast format.
“Lydia has done a great job, from recruiting incredible vocal talent to recording and editing. We’re thrilled to have been able to work with her over the past 18 months as we developed this project. It will make a huge difference as people engage Christian scripture as individuals and in their families,” says Crissman. Additional collaborators have included Laurence Sauder and Olivia Oosthuizen, both of Harrisonburg, VA.
Little Liturgies includes:
A reading of one of the four passages of Scripture for each week of the RCL
A reading of The Soil and The Seed Project’s corresponding litany
Open-ended questions for reflection or discussion
A song for the week, connected to the week’s Scripture reading, litany, and questions
Little Liturgies is sponsored by Everence and is available now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Podbean, and the project website. For more information on the Little Liturgies podcast or to learn more about the work of The Soil and The Seed Project, visit www.thesoilandtheseedproject.org.
